really enjoyed Martin Usborne's 'The Silence of Dogs in Cars' on his Web site.

found these photos so randomly... i was looking at Arongy's photos taken last year when

 he was quite sick, and i wondered how others would have captured their dogs' 

emotions through their cameras... so i googled. (duh) and gosh, i found these!

"The series is not about the issue of leaving dogs in hot cars, 

though Martin, a confirmed dog-lover..., is obviously aware of the animal welfare debate. 

These pictures stem from his childhood experience and then 

extend into the feeling of isolation many of us will experience, 

in this case in a modern urban setting."

the series consists of about forty photographs which, i read, were shot over three years.

strong, huh?

아롱이를 보고 있으면 꽤 자주 난 얘가 강아지란 사실을 잊어버린다.

집에 돌아와 자길 안아주고 뽀뽀해줄 때 까지 여기저기 따라다니다가 지치면

소리까지 내며 서운함을 표현하기도 하고, 우르르 꽝꽝- 천둥 번개 칠 때면

덜덜 떨며 두려움을 표출하기도 하고, 좋으면 좋다고 제자리 뜀 하며 맘껏 감정을 드러낸다.

드러내는 것 뿐만 아니라, 인간의 감정 역시 때론 사람보다 더욱 잘, 

그리고 빠르게 알아차리며 나름대로 그에 맞춰 행동을 하려고 한달까...

아롱이는 눈치만점 강아지다, 진심...

'개'는 '개'라고들 하는데

글쎄...

난 그 말을 무슨 뜻으로들 하는지 알다가도 잘 모르겠다.

주인과 교감하는 다른 개들을 봐도

우리 아롱이 만큼이나 그들 각자의 주인을 잘 알고 따르는 듯.

다른 동물들은 어떨까 궁금.

미국에서 host family가 키우는 고양이, ferret 

(ferret을 한국어로 뭐라 하는지 몰라 방금 찾아본 결과, '흰담비'라 한다넹...

근데 왜 '흰' 담비? 내가 본 ferret들은 모두 하나 같이 밤색이었는데.)을 

간접적으로 (?) 키워본 적은 있으나

(뭐, 매일 옆에서 보고 심지어 걔네가 내 주위를 돌아다니며 날 스치기도 했으니 

'직접적으로'에 가까울 수도 있으나... 난 걔네에게 조금의 애정도 느끼지 못했으므로 '간접적으로'라 해두기로...) 

강아지 만큼의 주인에 대한 충성심, 애정은 느끼지 못했다.

심지어 고양이는 주인을 언제 해칠 수 있을까 (할퀼 수 있을까) 늘 고민하는 것만 같았달까.

ferret들은 그냥, 음... 호기심에 가득찬 동물, 양말 따위의 인간의 여흔(?)이 묻은 사물을 찾아 

여기 저기에 숨겨대는 도둑놈 + 꾸러기 따위의 생명체 같았다고 하면 되려나...
